Blog Post 4

I changed my objective from critical habitats to global carbon emissions because it would be easier to correlate to the Gumball 3000 and the emissions the cars give off.
As of right now I am still in search of CO2 and emission data to map.  So far I have found a .kml file from Project Vulcan of Arizona State University.  It provides layers of emission data for the United States.  I have also found a excel file from the Fossil Fuel Data Assimilation system from Purdue University which had global data.  Examples of each can be found below.

  1. This is a very nice topic which will provide useful information that many organizations and companies could use in the future as the environmental impact of cars gets addressed. Other additions you could make to your data collection could include finding possible emission standard set for each state. Other data that you may want to search for is what types of cars are more common/ popular in certain areas or states. Northern states that receive a lot of snow or are very rugged and rural may have a higher number of SUV's or trucks. Overall I would like to see where this project goes as you progress further into it.

  2. I think this looks really good so far. It looks like you know what you are doing and you seem to be really interested in this which is a good thing. I agree with Dan that a lot of companies will be looking at this so it would be best to provide them with as much information that you can think of, and that will make your map still look professional. This looks like you are in a good place though and you seem to have things under control, can't wait to see the next steps!

  3. Your map and topic seem very interesting. I like your idea of showing the carbon emissions along the racing route. Maybe you can somehow show the carbon emissions levels before and after the race to see how much they increased.
